The United States has for decades claimed moral superiority when compared to other militaries in the world. And although I question the morality of war over all, some of the most outrageous comments that have been coming out of the Trump administration are related to direct attacks against the civilian infrastructure in Iran. So, if we in the United States are the defending entity of “moral war” in the world, what are we doing??
Since the start of the US/Israel war against Iran started in February, attacks on civilian infrastructure have been common. The US’ President and Secretary of Defense have explicitly called for destruction of civilian targets and no quarter for the Iranians. Both of these are war crimes. During the early hours of Easter 2026, Trump openly admitted that he will be committing war crimes in two days with “Power Plant Day and Bridge Day” and that the Iranians “will be living in hell”.

Although one can claim that war crimes have been committed by both belligerent fronts, I am an American and I will criticize my government as it is my right.
A very crude analysis of civilian casualties and attacks to civilian infrastructure (thanks GPT) suggests that the US has caused the highest amounts of casualties. Of course, it is not by a lack of Iranian attempts to counterattack, but it seems like the Israeli and American defenses are still capable to block attacks.

As far as what has been widely reported so far, the US has been responsible for most of the civilian casualties, and based on the president’s comments, we will not stop any time soon.
This is a completely unacceptable. What makes it more unacceptable, is that there are no clear goals to end this conflict. Trump continues moving the bar. On his Wednesday address to the nation, Trump stated that the US does not need anything coming out of the Strait of Hormuz. He changed that posture just four days later with the post above. I suppose that the economic impact on the global scale has Trump scared about the implications for him.
Although I do worry about stability of the global markets and how that instability may affect regular citizens across the US and beyond, I am sure that Trump does not care about any of that.
On the other “goals” or “not goals” is the regime change in Iran sought after mostly by the Israelis. This is such an elusive objective that I do not think that any serious commentator would take this as an actual war objective. With the former Ayatollah dead, and with a more hardline successor now in power, the stability of the region is in peril and the possibility of terrorist cells unaligned with any government will increase. Remember what happened with the Iraq war, remember ISIS?…
The current dynamics with this war do not leave me with a lot of optimism for the next few months. War crimes and civilian casualties will continue to run rampant, especially with leaders in the US and Israel incapable of sympathy. Even if the war ends tomorrow, the consequences of this senseless conflict will continue for much longer and Trump, Hegseth, Netanyahu and the Iranian government responsible for war crimes will not be held to account. This will just make the world a more unsafe place, will increase the resentment across the middle-East against the United states, and will have economic impacts long after the conflict is done.
Just one last thing. I know that everyone desires more prosperity and does not spend almost any time thinking about how much the Iranians hate America (or vice versa). This conflict was concocted by the elites in these countries with complete disregard for their citizenry. Stay engaged and keep your leaders accountable, and we cannot let them committing war crimes. I will try to do that on my end.
